Three ways to equip your classroom.

Plan capacity for the IT and cybersecurity lessons you teach from the module library. Reserve monthly VM Slots, use pay-as-you-go provisioning credits called virts, or run lab compute on your school’s hardware. Compare the options for your class schedule and budget.

Get Started

Start with the library. Plan for the learning.

Choose existing modules available to your organization without authoring every lab. You can also contribute your own and reuse your curriculum across classes. The plans below describe how you run the environments, not a requirement to create content.

Module visibility and deployment-zone availability still apply. A shared module may need a build in your zone before it can be released to students.

Subscription

Unlimited modules. One flat monthly rate.

$12.99

per month per VM Slot

Hosting

Hosted by Rudder Virt. Real virtual machines on demand, without running your own infrastructure. Instances are subject to instance limits.

How you pay

One flat monthly bill based on how many VM Slots you reserve, with unlimited modules and no per-module fees. Change your slot count or cancel anytime.

How you use it

Work through as many available modules as you like. Your VM Slots limit concurrent module instances, not the number of modules you can teach. Each student’s module instance uses one slot, including labs with multiple VMs. Archive an instance to free its slot, then reuse it for the next module or another student.

Best for

Classes working through the module library throughout the school year, with predictable costs regardless of how many modules they complete.

Pay-as-you-go

One virt, one instance.

$1.99

per virt

Hosting

Hosted by Rudder Virt. Real virtual machines on demand, without running your own infrastructure. Instances are subject to instance limits.

How you pay

Buy virts and spend one for each instance you create. Your unused virt balance never expires. No commitment.

How you use it

One virt creates one instance for one student, tied to one module. Different content or a fresh instance uses another virt.

Best for

Short courses, occasional classroom labs, or educators trying their first module.

Buy Virts

Self-hosted

Run lab compute on your hardware.

$499

per year

Hosting

Run student VMs on your own bare-metal server. The UI, accounts, module library, and grading definitions remain at ruddervirt.com. Install ruddervirt-os to get started.

How you pay

An annual license for your self-hosted deployment zone. Discuss hardware capacity, deployment, and support needs with us.

How you use it

Internet connectivity is required. Your team operates the hardware and plans capacity for concurrent student workloads; nested virtualization is not supported.

Best for

Programs that want student VM compute on institutional hardware and can operate a connected bare-metal server.

Cost comparison calculator

Compare your hosted costs.

Assume one active VM per student, working through modules sequentially. Subscription slots are reused between modules; pay-as-you-go uses one virt per student per module.

Total modules over the whole period, not per month.

Estimated totals in USD over 3 months.

Subscription

$194.85

5 VM Slots × $12.99 per month × 3 months

Pay-as-you-go

$49.75

5 students × 5 modules × $1.99 per virt

Pay-as-you-go costs $145.10 less over this period.

Subscription assumes you keep one slot per student for the entire period. Repeating a module or creating a replacement instance uses another virt on pay-as-you-go. Instances archived after 60 days may need replacing. See hosted instance limits.

Usage limits

Two automatic limits on every hosted instance.

These apply to both hosted plans. They keep your costs predictable and our platform fast for everyone. Self-hosted deployments set their own limits.

Powers Down After 2 Hours

An instance automatically powers off after 2 hours of continuous use. Power it right back on whenever you need it, as often as you like.

Archived After 60 Days

Each instance you create is automatically archived after 60 days, so old labs never pile up. Create a fresh one whenever you need it.
